    Ordering of Adjs?!

    Hi,
    Is the order for the Adjectives before a noun always observed by native speakers? How should this be worked out with EFL Ss? Actually it's a bit shocking to imagine native speakers to bring such discipline in their speech! (Though I know they rarely use all the possible adjs, and even in this case they dont consciously think about it, I still wonder how to master this usage...)...Size, Shape, Age, Colour, Nationality,etc.

    Thanks

    Yes, almost invariably.

    Really? You appear to be very easily shocked. These are rules of syntax, like any others.
    (I'm sure that you must have a few in your own language!)

    As with anything else - PRACTICE!

    Re: Ordering of Adjs?!

    When I first started visiting the ESL sites, I was surprised to find out about this formal order of adjectives because we (native speakers) know the order instinctively.

    If you said "a wooden red big box" it would sound completely wrong. Understandable, but utterly non-native.

    As said above, practice will be the key.

    {Obviously not a teacher or I would have know this order of adjectives years ago.}
