i just came across this idiom when using Cobuild dictionary for idioms but the example they used i did
not understand it completly and need your assistance
the examople is :-

what is meant by put paid and the whole example.

2. destroyed or beat them
The example should be:
Bucher put paid to that. He blew the whole operation out of the water.
Bucher resolved/ended that (matter). He destroyed the entire operation.
