    i've found this sentence
he slumped down on the garden
i don't understand the "slumped down" ie why they use down
    i've found that
slumped=to sit or fall heavily and suddenly

    Re: difficult sentence

"He slumped down in the garden" >> active - he is in the act of collapsing
"He was slumped down in the garden" > past - he has collapsed
"He slumped down on the garden seat" > active - he is the act of collapsing onto the seat.

Think of yourself sitting on a chair; now relax your torso and you will be slumped down.

    Re: difficult sentence

Slumping down is like sitting with a totally empty and loose posture, like a sick person or a very tired person. But not quite laying down.
