    Hi can someone explain to me what for the record and off the record mean?

    Hi David
    Something that is "for the record" is meant to be recorded so that later on there is a note about what happened, or what was said.

    Something that is "off the record" is NOT to be recorded. The person is giving information, but cannot be noted as the source of that information.
