    Ending letters

I notice that some academics end their letters / emails "Best". I was wondering why this is and what it actually means?

    Best regards/wishes

I wouldn't say 'best' alone, but you can say 'All the best'.

What about the use of the word sincerely? Can it be used formaly or in the academic level?
