    The England (wrong)

    Why (the Philippines) is right?
    and why (the united kingdom) is right?

    Because 'Philippines' is an adjective: The Philippines = The Philippine Islands. Similarly, you may occasionally hear 'the Argentine' (an abbreviation of the Argentine Republic).

    How come 'Philippines' is an adjective, and used in this phrase and spelled as Philippine (without 's")?
