Default please, check my usage of the "in spite of" in several sentences

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me your opinion concerning the usage of “in spite of” in the following sentences.

1.In spite of the rainy day, we went for a walk.
2.In spite of the darkness, they continued their way.
3.In spite of his warning he decided to stay and wait.
4.In spite of his invitation he was afraid of entering the hall.
5.In spite of my uncle’s advice, I made acquaintance of some young men in the train.
6.In spite of the traffic, I arrived on time.
7.In spite of the fact that I was tired, I couldn’t sleep.
8.I’m not tired, in spite of working hard all day.
9.She wasn’t well, but in spite of this she went to work.

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

    'but inspite of' sounds tautologous.

In spite of the darkness,,,,,,, they continued their way. Coma.

Why should seven commas be placed behind the "darkness"?

8.I’m not tired, in spite of working hard all day.

This is ungrammatical to me. I'd say: "Although I've worked hard all day, I'm not tired."

So that they be conspicuous. One is enough, two or more is feast, of yourse. Did you really count the commas, Daruma?

    Svartnik,

I didn't count them. Once I saw them, "seven" came into my head.

In spite of his wrning he decided to stay and wait.
Does this sentence need a comma, too?

    Hi Daruma,

I agree with you but not as a whole.

As far as I know there is a parallel .between “although“ and “in spite ot/despite”.

Last year Jack and Jill spent their vacation at the beach.
It rained a lot, but they enjoed themselves.

    You can say:

Although it rained a lot, they enjoyed themselves. (= It rained a lot, but they…..)

    You can also say:

In spite of the rain, they enjoyed themselves. Or
Despite the rain, they enjoyed themselves.

    So

Although it rained a lot, we enjoyed our vacation. = In spite of the rain, we enjoyed our vacation.

In spite of the traffic, I arrrived on time. = Although the traffic was bad, I arrived on time.

In spite of the fact that I was tired, I couldn’t sleep. = I couldn’t sleep, despite being very tired.

    You can make your choice.

Thank you again for your co-operation.

    Regards,

    V.

    Hi Daruma,

My explanatory examples deny your allegation “This is ungrammatical to me. I'd say: "Although I've worked hard all day, I'm not tired."

There is one and only grammatical rule namely “after “although” we use a subject + verb, and after “in spite of” (or “despite”) we use a noun , a pronoun or –ing.”

    Regards,

    V.

    vil,

    Thanks for the response.

8.I’m not tired, in spite of working hard all day.
Do you think this is grammatically correct?
