    classroom lessons is or are?

Hello. Could you please help me with the subject-verb agreement in the following sentence? -

'I think that classroom lessons is a more effective way to acquire good knowledge of the world'.

I just feel 'is' is correct here, but I cannot find the explanation in my grammar books. I remember I have seen it somewhere, just have failed to find. Could you please give me the rule?

isn't it because "lessons" is plural?
    "lesson is" and "lessons are".
the verb has to match the noun, I think.
    just a student.

I think we should use "are".
We use the singular or plural verb according to what comes before the verb
    "classroom lessons"

not according to what follows the verb. Here is "a more effective way."

    So, use "are".

I think that (taking) classroom lessons is a more effective way to acquire good knowledge of the world.
A verb like 'taking' is understood to be present. (It has been established or is otherwise understood that the sentence is talking about taking lessons).

If we think that there is an omitted gerund (taking), then I agree with you to use (is).

    What about the following?

    Apples are.....................
    Eating apples is..............

I think 2006's analysis is very right!!!
    I think______

taking classroom lessons can match a more effective way ,
classroom lessons cannot match a more effective way.

Of course, I agree with 2006

There is a notional concord between the verb 'is' and classroom lessons as an effective way to acquire good knowledge of the world.

[quote=Daruma;483952]Correct: I think that classroom lessons are a more effective way to acquire good knowledge of the world.
Incorrect: I think that classroom lessons is a more effective way to acquire good knowledge of the world.

I agree, 'are' is correct. I don't see how one can assume an absent 'taking' before 'classroom lessons'.
