    Smile meaning of "lift off"

    hi at all i want to know what is this sentence
    So we lift his prints off
    something he touched.
    what is the meaning of lift his prints off( i don't found the verb print off in dictionary)

    The verb is 'to lift off', what did we lift off? His prints.

    i.e., fingerprints.

    To use a forensic technique in obtaining an image of any fingerprints which may exist on a given object.

    At a crime scene it is standard procedure to "dust" for any fingerprints the perpetrator may have left behind. Fingerprints are usually invisible to the naked eye, so the investigator use a special powder that reveals any prints present. Once the prints are revealed, they are "lifted" - a piece of clear tape is placed over each one, causing the powdery print sticks to the tape. That tape is then adhered to a white card which is taken back to the laboratory for analysis.
