Hello Chazelle, and welcome.
I posted a question about gerunds and infinitives and I don't understand why the teachers haven't yet given an answer.
Hi! I'm studying verbs followed by gerunds or infinitive or both. I re[a]d different sites and on one in particular it was mentioned that the verb afford could be followed by both while I have learned that that verb was only followed by a infinitive.I can't speak for the Brits, but in (North) American English afford -ing is possible; whether it's considered Standard is another matter.
- Everyone can afford watching online TV.
- We cannot afford spending the whole month here.
My second question is about the verb explain. It seems one that is followed by a gerund....is it true? Yes. For example,
- I can explain swimming to you.
I don't know why that happened. If you want to know, post your question in the Support Area.
Second why there is a icon that mentioned that thread is closed. Does it mean that I did not post in a right section? That section is closed?
