    Default Coming into ears...

My train of thought was interrupted abruptly as his voice coming into my ears.

Do I need to add "was" in front of voice in the above sentence?
I appreciate any suggestion to improve the above sentence.
    Thanks.

My train of thought was interrupted abruptly by the sound of his voice.

You could say 'by his voice coming into my ears', but it doesn't sound very natural. I'd also consider taking out ' abruptly'.
