Please, wise owl, encourage students to do some work.

Incidentally, san2612, some of the answers given are dubious. One does not 'respond a statement', and (although it's grammatical) no native speaker of English would say 'the ball is in the playing field'; on the playing field, maybe. But the hand-ball rule applies also when the ball is in the air. What the exercise is obviously looking for is the expression 'the ball is in play'. (When the ball is 'in the football ground'. incidentally, it may be several metres from the playing area; and any player may indeed pick it up in his or her hands.)

Did the setter of the task think that sentences 1 and 5 were wrong in some way? (And, for what it's worth, I don't understand sentence 2.)

    b

    Why don't you understand sentence 2 ?

I don't understand this sentence either.

The sentence 2 means "there are some persistent demands that the president appear when there is an important event, but he attends meetings with the news media." (he appears even when there's no important event)
