    Weren't or were no

    Is saying

    1) There weren't cars yesterday

    same as

    2) There were no cars yesterday?

Is there anything worng by saying there weren't in that situation above?

    2) There were no cars yesterday? correct

The cars were not there yesterday, but not *There were not (weren't) cars yesterday

    Does this answer your question?

How come 1 is not correct? I think it is grammatically correct, but its use is strongly dependent on the context.
