    Default Eat one's carrots?

    Hi,

I don't understand a conversation I saw on the TV show "The Sopranos."
The conversation takes place between a husband and a wife.
The wife got a new haircut, and the husband thinks it's too short.

Tony: What did you do to your hair?
Carmela: I cut it. What do you think?
Tony: I thought we agreed that you'd talk to me first before doing something to your hair.
Carmela: What do you think of it?
    Tony: It's short.
Carmela: Good, he eats his carrots.
What does the wife mean? "He eats his carrots?"

    Thanks!

I am not a teacher, but I am a native speaker.

In English, when someone says "he eats his vegetables", which could also be "he eats his carrots" I suppose, it is meaning to say "he is strong" or something almost like that.

It seems like Carmela is saying the phrase out of nowhere, but when I thought about it, she may be saying it about Tony to say that he is being very blunt and strong in the way he is saying his opinion to her about her hair.

That is my take on it at least.

There is an old belief that eating carrots improves ones eyesight. Carmela is being sarcastic about Tony noticing that her hair is short.

Oh, that's right! It had been a long time since I heard that one. That makes a lot more sense.
