    live and breathe

    Hello.

    - As I live and breathe, if it isn't Tom Swift! Where have you been all these years!
    - As I live and breathe, you will never marry my daughter!

What does "live and breathe" mean?
    The same as below?

    live and breathe
◊If you live and breathe something, you spend a great deal of time, thought, or effort on that thing.
    ▪ She lives and breathes music.
    ▪ They live and breathe their work.

    Thank you.

    Re: live and breathe

The first one is used to express great surprise.

Note that phrasing: If it isn't...! instead of the more simple "it's..."
