Default Had + past participle + that we + "would" OR "were going to"

In French, one uses the conditionnel to suggest the future when talking in the past.

"Tu m'avais dit que tu viendrais".

"You had said that you would come".

However, I've noticed many people say in English:

"You said you were gonna come".

So, is there a subtle difference between "would" and "going to" here?

    Thanks!

    Generally not.
They both mean: You said that you had the intention of coming.
