Thread: Further query

    Default Further query

    Which statement is grammatically correct:

Further to email from your offices of January 14, 2005, on even date we have filed a response by facsimile in accordance with your instructions.

    or

Further to the email from your offices of January 14, 2005, on even date we have filed a response by facsimile in accordance with your instructions.

My question is whether it is incorrect grammar to omit the article "the" before the word "email". If both sentences are acceptable, is one more comfortable for the hearer?
(For clarification, the email is not from the person to whom the letter is written.)

    Thanks!

    Default Re: Further query

I would not use further to email. (I would be using a brand new phrase.) Instead, try:

In response to the email from your offices of January 14, 2005, on even date we have filed a response by facsimile in accordance with your instructions.
(I assume that the the in the email refers to a specific email.)
