When using object pronoun "them", plural, use verb to "be" were plural as well.

Could be "none" and "them" seen in the phrase like so?
"them" = Joe, Ann, Lui, Fia
-None of (Joe, Ann, Lui, Fia) was there.
or
-Neither Joe nor Ann (nor Lui nor Fia) was there.

Techniquement NONE doit être suivi du singulier. Cependant le pluriel est admis si le nom le plus proche est au pluriel.
