We have recently added a Word Checkerto the site, which will look up a word or phrase against our databases of grammatical and lexical information. One of the things it will show is whether the word appears in the Dolch basic word list.
The Dolch words are the 220 most frequently found words in books that children read. They are sorted by frequency and, as many of these words cannot be sounded out because they do not follow decoding rules, it is recommended that these words must be learned as sight words.
