In a bid to encourage people to enjoy reading more, Premier League Reading Stars (PLRS) was set up in 2003. The concept is simple - football has a great following and footballers themselves are increasingly being seen as national and international icons. The project hopes to "harnesses the motivational power of football to encourage families to enjoy reading".

The physical body speaks language and is a wonderful tool to draw on to teach young learners English or anyone for that matter. I use physical gestures, emotions, actions, movement, voice, and eye contact to teach language to my young students. In no time, young learners begin to physically respond to language and understand its meaning.

Vocabulary: head, eye, ear, nose, mouth, shoulder, knee, toe

Target: Young Learners


Greetings and Warm-up: Greet the class with a good-morning or good-afternoon depending on the day. Have the class stand up and respond to your greeting and do the warm-up. Ask the students, "Do you want to sing a song?�? Usually, they'll nod and begin to twitch and move their bodies. Some will respond with a yes.
