If the adjective ends consonant + le

Normally, the e is changed to y to make the adverb:

  • Responsible - responsibly
  • Simple - simply

If the adjective ends vowel + le

Normally, ly is added the adjective:

  • Sole - solely
  • Vile - vilely

NB: Whole - wholly
