There seems to be some idioms referenced or implied meaning in some of these phrases that I do not understand:

being brave got in the way
of recognizing missteps we've made
so we said goodbye to moonlit eyes
and met the morning and its flood of light
gripped the thorns of the rose
cherished the beautiful pain it holds
something so fragile and flawed
at least we know it's pure
veins and veils have their place
as a way out of our past mistakes

blood in my veins
says it's never too late
veins and veils have their place
as a way out of our past mistakes

What does he mean by "veins and veils have their place / as a way out of our past mistakes"? I thought veins were what blood runs through in your body, and a veil is the thing that a bride wears over her face. In what way do the preceding lines explain way these things have their place as a way out of your past mistakes? Can veins and veils have a different meaning that I'm not aware of?

Also, what does moonlit eyes mean or imply?

What do you think this text is about? What is he explaining?

Thanks.

Could you please tell us the name of the poet and the title of the poem? We always ask posters to acknowledge their sources if they are quoting. Besides, it may help potential answers go the right way.

Haha! The "poet" is a singer in a band, you can find the source here: http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/converge/allweloveweleavebehind.html#10 (it's slightly misspelled in parts so I edited it according to my lyrics booklet). I cut out repeated lines from it because it's a verse-chorus lyric. And don't worry, my days of doing English homework are far gone *feels old even though I'm not really, yet*. I'm trying to understand what he means because I like the way he writes.
