It's about a shy marketing genius and his girl, who "had managed to crack that eggshell veneer and was mowing down his vulnerabilities." "He felt stronger with her than without her. When it came to the most intimate contact, which these
days was sometimes twice daily, they were like love gears, operating perfectly. He was not afraid, though to say he was fearless would be to romance the product into the twilight zone."
Because they are both from marketing, this expression may be purposely stylized accordingly. The sense is "to exaggerate", but what is the allegory?
Thank you.

It looks like total nonsense to me.

We have been here before, meliss.

What is the source of your latest series of questions, and who is the author?

The source is "Urainia: A Fable" book, and the author - J. Michael Willard.

The phrase "romance the product" is advertising slang. You dress the product up to make it more attractive to customers. I agree with your thought that the implication is to "exaggerate". The use of "Twilight Zone" indicates that exaggeration reaches the level of being unbelievable.
