Hello everybody,

I would like to ask clarifications on the meaning of the expression "beat the commute". Does it refer to situations where something is so far better than something else that no comparison between the two is possible?
Could you provide some examples of usage of this expression?
Thank you so much

It could mean avoiding the commute by travelling at a different time or not travelling- it would depend on the context.

It's nice that your employer allows you to alter your working hours so that you can start and end your day later than others. That let's you beat the commute.

Wow. You work from home? Hard to beat that commute!

Not so nice if they let you start earlier and finish later.

Right - not BOTH of those!

(But it's nice if you can come in at 7 and leave early for your kid's softball game, or come in later. You can leave work later too, and get home the same time as the people who leave "on time," depending on the traffic!)
