[Grammar] which sentence pattern is more common?

Would you please tell me which one of the following sentence patterns is more nature to use? Thank you.

Pattern A: This will be the first time that I have done something.
Pattern B: This will be the first time that I will have done something.

for example,
A) I'm flying to New York tomorrow. It'll be the first time I've travelled by plane.
B) I'm flying to New York tomorrow. It'll be the first time I will have travelled by plane.
A) It will be the fifth time that he has been invited to such a meeting.
B) It will be the fifth time that he will have been invited to such a meeting.

You don't need perfect tense in those sentences. You can just simply say...

This will be the first time that I do something.
It'll be the first time I travel by plane.
It will be the fifth time he was invited to such a meeting.

Shouldn't that be:

It was/would be the fifth time he was invited to such a meeting.

or

It will be the fifth he is invited to such a meeting.

Why mix the future and past tense?

Both "A" sentences are natural. The others are awkward and unnecessarily wordy.

There has been a long thread on this subject in the last week or two. I don't remember if the topic was labelled well enough to search for it though.

Shouldn't that be:

It was/would be the fifth time he was invited to such a meeting.

The original sentence is "It will be the...". There is nothing wrong with "will be", and 'was' and 'would be' have different meanings.

It will be the fifth time he is invited to such a meeting.
You could use "is", but I think "was" is better. He already (was)(has been) invited four times previously.




Why mix the future and past tense? Mixing tenses is unavoidable, and is not a problem anyway. If you use "is", you have future and present tenses.

I would say A and possibly C. I really don't know if it's a difference between AmE and BrE.
