Apparently there are two types of "assembly seating." Smoke-protected, or not smoke-protected.

There is an "exit capacity factor" for each type of seating.

The "exit capacity factor" for "smoke-protected" seating is apparently more favorable.

I read this to mean that if your occupants are protected from smoke, that you can have fewer exits.
