Dear teachers,

- Could I see the newspaper when you finish with it?

Do we say 'read the newspaper' or 'see the newspaper'?

Thank you!

]My personal answer. I would use 'see' or 'have a look at'. or just 'have', rather than 'read'.

Dear teachers,

My personal opinion:

- Could I have a look at that paper when you've finished reading it?
- Can I have your paper when you've finished with it?
- Please may I read that paper after you?

My great-grandmother's rather marvellous East End of London version would have been:

- 'Ere, can I have a butchers at that rag when you're done? Cheers, love.
