I need help to understand the difference between finish and end.
In the phrase They had finished with each other. Why can't I use ended?

I would like to thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Taty:hi:

This is a special case. The phrasal verb 'finished with' is a fixed expression meaning 'ended a relationship with'.

For general discussions of the differences between finish and end, see the Similar Threads below, which have been found for you thanks to your excellent thread title.
