Ok, This kind of confused me. What exactly is "prose". The only definition I found was that it was a piece of writing that 'flowed' but that didn't need to rhyme. Is that correct? If so, how is that any different to normal story writing?

I ask this question, as I have received my assignments for the coming semester. I got to choose between a Short story, upto 2000 words. Non-fiction prose, upto 2000 words, and a suite of poems (Blah) upto 2000 words...

Could somebody please help with the definition of prose?

Non-fiction prose does not have to be a story, like a journalism article or a biography. I can be an explanation of who something works, a recounting of the history of fastening devices, or a comparison of Greek and Roman gods. As long as it's fact-based, and not a bunch of tables, charts, and bullet points, it's non-fiction prose.
