Hello,

I have seen this conversation in a documentary film named 'the rise and fall of Rome' :

- How much food do we have left?
- Enough for ten days. No more.

I couldn't understand why the adjective 'left' is put at the end of the sentence? I think it is much better to utter 'how much food left do we have?'.
Which one is better?

Thanks.

No. That's the correct position for "left".

How much food do we have now?
How much food did we have a week ago?
How much food will we have next week?
How much food do we have left?
How much food is left?
How much food is remaining?

When it is used to mean "remaining", it always goes there.

I don't have any money left.
Do you have any money left?
I've run out of beer. Do you have any left from that case of twelve you bought?
No, sorry, I don't have any left either.
Last week, I had six bottles of water. I only have one left.
