After his graduation at Franklin College, now the University of Georgia, my father studied law in the office of Judge Nathan Lewis Hutchins of Lawrenceville, and was admitted to the bar.

be admitted to the bar = get the right legal practice in the court

Yes, but your definition would be better (as far as language is concerned) as: - be allowed to / earn the right to / become qualified to ... represent clients in court. (NB: that is my definition, not a legal one)
