What is the exact meaning of "coming together" in the following sentences?

**Periodic Repeats is relevant when you have two zones coming together, such as a rotor and stator.

I assume you know what a rotor and a stator are. As the rotor rotates and the stator does not, their respective electrical fields will 'come together' or align or intersect or in some other way interact. By knowing the speed of the rotation, we can calculate how many times these fields interact within a given period of time. The alignment repeats, and it repeats at a known rate or 'period'.
