What is the difference between information and knowledge?

I think that is a good premise. Consider a quote from T. S. Eliot's, The Rock. "Where is wisdom we have lost in knowledge, where is the knowledge we have lost in information" and I would add, where is the information we have lost in data. I would suggest that each is the application of the other, that is, wisdom is the application of knowledge etc. etc.

As I learnt it, in my IT degree, information is the outcome of the correct use of data. Data is not information.
But that's a specific Information Technology definition, in which 'information' naturally needs to be defined rather closely.
Knowledge is simply having data or information within one's memory or within reach. And if it's data, the ability to turn it into information.
Wisdom might be the ideal application of knowledge, but I don't claim to be an expert on wisdom.
