1. In hot countries people wear light clothes .............. cool.
I chose "for keeping" but the answer is "to keep".
2. Climate is very important in ................. people's lives.
I chose "most of" but the answer is "most"
Please explain to me the differences between my wrong answers and the correct answers. Thank you!

Your choice is correct too. It means, however, something else than the sentence with the exercise book's proposed choice.

In your choice, most in most of people's lives means something similar to the meaning of most in, say, Most of my life was spent in prison.
On the other hand, the proposed choice by the book means this:

More people think climate is important than there are people who don't.

In the case of the first exercise, you were wrong. I have to think about how I can explain the why's and wherefore's to you.

I look up my dictionary for "for" and "to" and it says: "to" is used to show purpose or intention, "for" is used to show purpose or function. The examples are:
- I set out to buy food
- a machine for slicing bread/Are you learning English for pleasure or for your work?
So I still don't understand their differences:?:

In hot countries people wear light clothes to keep cool. --reason

Purpose concentrates on the outcome of the action. Reason concentrates on the motivation behind the action. That is what I see in what I would call their slight differences.
The problem with your answer IMO is this:

In hot countries people wear light clothes for keeping cool. :cross:
In hot countries people wear light clothes for keeping themselves cool. :tick:
