"It's an yes" or "It's a yes"?

Isn't "an yes" more effortless than "a yes"?

No, not at all. It has nothing to do with effort. "A" is used before any word which starts with a consonant sound. "Y" is a consonant sound (of course, it's a consonant) so it is preceded by "a". "An" is used before vowel sounds.
