grayed out or greyed out

Is "grayed out" correct in the following sentence?

Function is inaccessible: Menu items which are grayed out are inaccessible due to the programmed parameters.

"Gray" is the American spelling, and "grey" is the British spelling. You see both in the US, though.

"Gray" is the American spelling, and "grey" is the British spelling. You see both in the US, though.
:up: But I imagine the new verb 'grayed out' was probably coined in the US, so I would tend to use the 'a' version despite my Britishness - just as I write about 'computer programs' without the 'British' ending. Most dictionaries give 'program' as the correct British way to spell the word in this context, but there are still some users who insist on 'programme'.)

I'm American, but I prefer to spell grey with an "e." I am in the minority here, but I wouldn't let anyone tell me it's "wrong."
