I have long been wanting to know what the meaning is by "walking with heavy steps".

Actually, what do somebody's heavy steps mean?
Thank you.

Hi panicmonger,

trudge = walk heavily and firmly, as when weary, or through mud
shuffle – to walk very slowly, noisingly, without lifting your feet off the ground, to walk with difficulty being tired or unwilling to proceed.
stagger – to walk or move unsteadily, almost falling over (from carrying something heavy, being weak , tired
or drunk); to walk with uncertain, uneven steps, continually veering in direction and keeping a precautious balance.

Regards,
