[FONT=&#26032]My favourite animal is a cat.

Is it natural if I re-arrange the order as follows?

A cat is my favourite animal.

Thanks.

Do you mean cats in general, or one specific cat?

I mean one specific cat.

'My favourite animal is my cat Tibbles.'

'My favourite animal is a cat — my tortoiseshell, Tibbles.'

Hello.:-D
I'm really sorry to barge in.

If we talk about cats in general, the sentence should be "My favourite animals are cats." or "Cats are my favourite animals."
"My favourite animal is a cat." is not natural. "A cat" here does not have a generic meaning. Do I understand it correctly?

Hi tzfujimino

When we are talking about cats in general, it seems that some native speaking English teachers in this forum would say as follows:

My favourite animal is the cat.
My favourite animal is a cat.
My favourite animal is cats.
Dogs are my favourite animal.
