Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to explain to me in plain English the difference between previous, previously, tentative and tentatively in the following sentences?

Previous systematic investigation of unsymmetrical ketons in the Schmidt reaction have been concerned principally with the effect of branching in alkygroups.

Extraction of cornstalks, previously hydrolyzed with dilute hydrochloric acid according to Morgal.

These compounds have been previously assigned the following structure.

Nearly all previous stidies on the ion exchange behaviour of zirconium and halfium have been limited to investigations of the separation of these two elements.

Our experiments have led to the tentative conclusion that these mixed solvent systems facilitate cellulose reactions.

No particular vibrational mode can be suggested at present which might account for this correlation which must therefore be regarded as as tentative one.

In addition, the week band was noted by some workers and assigned tentatively to an additional NH absorption.

Further evidence hearing on the correctness of a tentatively assigned electrode reaction can be secured.

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V.

Previous and tentative act as adjectives.
Tentatively and previously act as adverbs.

(Previous describes the noun investigation along with another adjective systematic, which means investigation carried out earlier)
Extraction of cornstalks, previously hydrolyzed with dilute hydrochloric acid according to Morgal. (previously modifies the verb hydrolyzed)

These compounds have been previously assigned the following structure. (previously modifies the verb assigned)

Nearly all previous studies on the ion exchange behaviour of zirconium and halfium have been limited to investigations of the separation of these two elements. (previous describes the noun studies)

Our experiments have led to the tentative conclusion that these mixed solvent systems facilitate cellulose reactions. (tentative (not final) describes conclusion)

No particular vibrational mode can be suggested at present which might account for this correlation which must therefore be regarded as as tentative one.( tentative describes the pronoun one which refers to correlation)

In addition, the week band was noted by some workers and assigned tentatively to an additional NH absorption. (tentatively modifies the verb assigned)

Further evidence hearing on the correctness of a tentatively assigned electrode reaction can be secured. (tentatively modifies the verb assigned)

Thank you for your efforts.

Regards,

V.
