I have never heard this idiom used in AmE.

It's not that common in BrE, but I someone used it in an interview and I rather liked it. I hadn't heard it in a while and thought it should be more used.

Did you mean to say "... but [STRIKE]I[/STRIKE] someone used it in an interview ..."?

Late night typing- I heard someone use it. I would not delete the word [strike]I[/strike] on the grounds of self-importance. :-D
