Hi,

Could you please advise which one is the correct English?

1.
I had a dream last night that I had been teleported to another planet to live with humanoid aliens.

2.
I had a dream last night in which I had been teleported to another planet to live with humanoid aliens.

Should I use have been teleported or had been teleported in a dream scenario?

Thanks.

No, you can either use "was teleported" or "had been teleported" but not "have been" teleported.

If when the dream started you were already there, use "had been" because it was a past action before the rest of the dream (which you would also tell in the past) took place.

In 1. 'that' is wrong. I'm not a fan of 'in which', though it's clearer than 'that...in' (where the separation between the that and the in is great. I'd break it up into two sentences or two co-ordinate clauses: 'I had a dream last night, and in my dream I had...' - had is right. ;-)

Iamtime, your thread title is better than either of your alternative sentences.
