When I was confronted with translation of a sentence meaning Afghanistan women enjoy fewer rights than men, I don't know which word to use. Is it Afghanistan women has no standing or Afghanistan women has no status?
I should like to go back to the original question. When do we use standing and when do we use status? You have raise an important question.
I would suggest that the word status can stand by itself. "Children in their society have little status."
I would also suggest that the word standing requires some supporting words. "New legislators in Parliament have a lower standing than those who possess seniority."
But I may not be correct in this. Perhaps others can point to a rule.
Thank you for the question.
