If my small is their medium then how can we resolve this conflict? I mean I say make it small please and the waiter bring in a medium size serving then there is a communication gap.

When you want to know the exact size, you ask. How many ounces does your small juice have? In American restaurants and other places that serve beverages, a small orange juice can range from six ounces or less to twelve ounces.

If the waiter brings the size considered small there, then that should be good enough. If the customer is really dissatisfied, then they can complain, but most people would accept it.

If it's not big enough, you can order a refill, or the next larger size. Depending on the establish and the beverage in question, refills are often free in many US restaurants, although juices (and alcoholic beverages) are usually the exception.

If you consider it too big, then there's nothing do be done as it's already in their smallest glass.

... but you can ask for what you can't drink to be put in a to-go cup.

Or upload a photo to social media with a rant about the restaurant's excessive measures.

A couple of days ago I was served a sixteen-ounce glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice at a hotel's breakfast buffet. This was just part of the regular service, so it was neither a "small" nor a "large" glass. It was far more than I would normally drink, but I couldn't stand to see any of it wasted so I finished it off. :)

As an approximate guide, 16 ounces = 1 pint = 50 centilitres.

16 US fluid ounces = 1 US pint. An Imperial pint is 20 Imperial fluid ounces or about 19.2 US fluid ounces.

This has always made me wonder about how big the world is in the aphorism a pint's a pound the world 'round.
