Does the word "after" function as a verb in a sentence, " After her." or a linking verb in a sentence ," I am after the salary." ?

Hello,

1. Do you know what a phrasal verb is? It is a verb with two parts. For example: I get up every morning at 3 a.m.

2. Well, "be after" is also a phrasal verb. It consists of "be" (linking verb) + "after." (When "after" is part of a phrasal

verb, the experts call it different words: preposition, adverb, particle.)

3. "Be after" means something like "seek":

a. Tom does not like that job. He is only after the salary.

b. James does not love her. He is just after her money.

c. The police are after the bad guys.
