I don't know about #4. You don't grow hair like corn or rice. I want to grow MY hair OUT. I want to let my hair grow long.

Not even if you were willingly bold and decided to change that by letting your hair grow?

No, we let our hair grow, we don't grow it.

I don't think you "raise" cats, unless you are ranching them for food or fur.

Nobody is willingly bald. You might deliberately have your head shaved, but that is not baldness.

That is what I meant. Thanks for the correction of "bold". What is it then if it's not baldness?

No, we let our hair grow, we don't grow it.

But you can grow a beard, right? By the same token, I thought you could grow your hair if you stop shaving it.

"I've stopped shaving my head and started growing my hair." For me, the important part of the second part of the sentence is the word "my".

I want to start growing hair. :cross:

Suggest you Google "raising cats".

Notwithstanding Google, if someone told me they "raised cats" it would sound odd to me. I could see someone saying they "bred cats," if they were into pedigree breeds.

I feel almost certain that I have heard "I want to grow my hair" without the OUT more than once. Even if my memory is faulty on this point, if I heard it now it would seem to me quite standard AmE usage.

Then we would say I want to grow my hair, or the other phrases suggested.
