Hello everyone,

I want to test my English writing skill. Could anyone please give me some random essay topic for practice? Thanks.

Sure, why not?

Do our dreams actually mean anything?

I'm not even sure what you meant by this incomplete sentence. Surely it's not a suggestion for an essay topic!

I had modal verbs on my mind. But I guess you're right.

How about this one:

Modern music -- the good, the bad, and the ugly

Sure, why not?

Do our dreams actually mean anything?

Here's my essay :

Have you ever had dreams? Certainly, the answer is yes. At lease we have experienced at least one dream in our lives. Then, what are dreams? Dreams are things that you can see during our sleeps. The "things" can be a series of events with different settings, like backgrounds, characters, and circumstances. The world for each one dream is chosen at random; it can be a world that mimics the real world, or a fantasy world. The character "I" can be a person that mimics you or sometimes a different person at different age, or even an animal. Yes, things in our dreams can be everything. You can become a girl (even though you might not be actually a girl), a superman, a batman or a cat that is able to speak. You can interact with things in your dreams by hearing, talking and performing complex actions. You've got your own dreams and you can still do your things during your sleep. Dream can look so real, so let's try imagining you becoming a spiderman moving between the gaps between buildings in your dream. That would definitely create a scene you know!

Do our dreams actually mean anything? Yes, they can mean a little, sometimes so-so, or a lot. But for many cases, dreams can just mean nothing. Well, of course every dream has its own meaning. The meaning is safe and valid when your dream is active; it will nolonger be safe when you exit your dream. Your brain always try to retain as much memories of your dream as possible however, they don't usually last long. Just exiting your dream and focusing on a certain thing and you already have trouble recalling the dream afterwards. You tend to forget very quickly, so that's why dreams often mean nothing to you. However, there are some cases in which people can remember dreams. If you can remember dreams, they have meanings and they mean something. It can be a normal dream, a beautiful dream, an useful dream, a nightmare or whatever dream it can be. Unlike normal dreams, beautiful dreams have perfect settings and they are well-executed in a way that leaves you strong impression. An useful dream like a dream about music and melodies can give you inspiration to help you create a new piece a music. A dream with bad or horrible settings can give you a nightmare that you can never forget. In conclusion, dreams can mean something or mean nothing, but not mean anything. That depends heavily on how well we can remember dreams.

Sleep researchers have determined that we all dream every night. In fact, they have determined that most dreams occur during REM sleep. (REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement.)

The stages of sleep occur during ninety minute cycles. REM sleep is one of those stages.

OR

How about:

A dream is a movie that you watch on the insides of your eyelids.

I suppose it's possible to be a member of the opposite sex in your dreams.

I have never heard anybody giving a speech say it, and I have never seen a professional writer use "in conclusion".

Dreams. Dreams. Dreams. Each of us has our own dreams.

Rather than going around and around you need to find a path through the forest of your thoughts. The second paragraph is rather confusing, with much needless repetition. Repetition is not bad in itself. It's useful if there is a point to it.

Your dreams help you get through the night. They help you make sense of the waking world.

You can do things in your dreams that you can't do while you're awake. While dreaming you are liberated from the constrains of space and time.
