What is the meaning of this compound expression "not as yet" ? Could you please use it in a sentence.

I believe the phrase is "as of yet". Personally, I would just use "not yet" but here is an example anyway:

"He has not turned in his portfolio as of yet."

I was shocked myself, I found this phrase with the 400 hundreds words TOFEL related I downloaded from one of the web sites... Thank you very much, I also would prefer the use of "not yet" but to be oriented I needed to ask a native speaker.

I don't like "as of yet". The "of" is redundant and I tell my students not to use it. There is nothing wrong with "as yet" and "not as yet" or just "yet" and "not yet".

To use the previous responder's example:

He has not yet turned in his portfolio.
He has not turned in his portfolio yet.

Has he turned in his portfolio yet?
No. Not yet.
No. Not as yet.

To me, both responses are possible though the first is more natural. I would not, however, use "as yet" in the question, so I wouldn't say "Has he turned in his portfolio as yet?"

I have not, as of yet, had occasion to use the phrase as such, but I have, as of this time, used "as yet" and "not as yet".
