Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?
I shiver in my jacket, straining my eyes to see the muted glare of the sun dying behind the thick, bristly trees.
Knowing one of the likely interpretations of “mute” namely “lacking the power or faculty of speech” I ventured to suggest a most likely in my humble opinion interpretation of the expression in question.
muted glare = moody glare/ lower glare
