Hello Teachers,

Please, could you tell me what the correct answer is, and why you chose that?

3- _____________ a cheese shop has since grown into a small conglomerate consisting of a catering business and two retail stores.

A- In the beginning of.
B- It began as.
C- Its beginning which was.
D- What began as.

(PS: please, tell me what this sentence means, it confuses me.)

I'm sorry Mr. Tdol, I chose (d), because I felt that other answers don't make sense. Addtionally, when I chose (d) and read the whole sentence, I felt that there was something missing before consisting. Am I Right?

To me, the sentence seems like this " What began as a cheese shop has since grown into a small conglomerate which consists of a catering business and two retail stores.

The original sentence is fine with option D.
