Hello,

I need to understant "screwed" in this case:

"If you do that (or this????), we're screwed!".

Thanks a lot
W

PS: Can we use this and that interchangeably in this case?

It's only slightly rude.

Screwed is a euphemism for a very rude word.

Can we use this and that interchangeably in this case? Either could be correct, but it depends on the context.

Once upon a time, "screwed" was considered to be a rude word, mainly because it was a euphemism of the "f-word." Back in the 1970s and early 1980s, my Mom would chastise us kids if we said "we're screwed" - she considered it a "dirty word." These days my 70+ year old Mother uses "screwed" just as casually as she uses "black" or "white" or "dog" or "cat." The word has lost much of its offensiveness over the years.

Is it also true for all versions of the word "screw" such as "scr** you" ?
Do we need to use a double-asterisk for this?

Since I haven't got an answer as yet, I take it as a "No", so the asterisks stay.

Screw the ast*****s. I wouldn't see any need for censorship there- the rudeness is in the idea expressed rather than the language- the same way shut up is rude but doesn't cry out for ***. ;-)
